The Longest Masterpiece
Just south of downtown St. Louis and the Arch is a flood wall that follows the river south for about two miles. Since 1995 on the interior of the wall it has been legal to paint on it. Around 2012 I stumbled upon the wall while filming another project and was amazed at the artwork painted on the wall for a couple miles. I would spend the next ten years periodically visiting the wall and filming the progression of artwork on the wall. Little did I realize that every year around Labor Day there is a multi-day festival where artists from all around the country and the world come to embrace the love of art, hip-hop and the wall.
In the galleries below I have organized the photos in three parts – Murals Over Time, The Refresh, and New Coat of Paint.
